Sailing craft of all kinds had been Charles J. Obst Sr. "Charlie's" passion since he was first able to swim.
Pictured below are just a few examples of Charlie's vast sailing experiences. These photographs span through the years beginning in the 1920's through to the late 1990's.
In the 1960's as the shop foreman of a production machine shop located just off the docks in New Port, Rhode Island Charlie was quick to make friends with several renowned skippers and boat designers of the America's Cup races held in the waters off New Port, Rhode Island years ago.
Pictured here are the two young and ambitious Obst boys, Charlie and Tom perfecting their racing skills on New York's Sheep's Head Bay.
Years later, seen in this photo are Charlie's wife Ann accompanied by his mother and his first two children.

"Explorer" pictured here in 1960, was Charlie's first Cutter design, which he built featuring two head sails and a desirable shallow draft hull ideally suited for shallow bays and inlets.
